Vision Info

With so many eye-care related Web sites out there, it is easy to get lost trying to find useful information. Here is a concise guide to some basic sites in optometry, patient care, and general health care. This should provide a good start.

American Optometric Association
This is a good site for patients. It has accessible information on common eye conditions, children's vision, low vision, and more. There is also a good education centre for kids and teachers.

Canadian Association of Optometrists

This site contains a wealth of information about Optometry in Canada, including the latest provincial news, national classifieds, an online clinic, practice management ideas and the ability to register for the "In Touch" e-mail newsletter. Portions of the site are available for CAO members only.

American Academy of Optometry

This site offers information on member services, meetings and news. There is a database of members and a search engine for abstracts from the Optometry and Vision Science journal. There is a message board for eye care professionals to share information and ideas.

Review of Optometry

This online version of the journal contains the most recent edition and more. There is a handbook of ocular diseases and managment recommendations for 50 common conditions.

Macular Degeneration Partnership

The Macular Degeneration Partnership (MDP) provides accurate, timely and unbiased information on age-related macular degeneration (AMD). A monthly online newsletter and an e-mail subscription service keep patients and their families up to date on research, experimental treatments and low vision aids.

Optometric Management

Practice tips from the current issue of the journal.

Review of Ophthalmology

Highlights of the recent issue, links, and product guide.

Contact Lens Council

This site offers facts on proper lens care, presbyopia, refractive surgery, and even a video on how to insert a contact lens.

Contact Lens Manufacturers Association

Good information for both patients and practitioners. The section on rigid gas permeable lenses is especially useful.

Glaucoma Research Foundation

Glaucoma is a disease that slowly robs the person with this condition of vision. This site offers patients on the latest research and development on glaucoma.

Low Vision Gateway

This is a thorough site about low vision, for doctors, patients, and their families. It covers everything from low vision aids, to computer access technology, children and educational issues, and legal issues pertaining to low vision. Patients may appreciate the links to Web sites of visually impaired people, and the directory of e-mail support groups for the visually impaired.

Canadian Health Network

This site is a general health site with information on eye disorders (under "E"). In English and in French.

MedWeb
